Résumé
Creativity emerges through dynamic transitions across multiple cognitive states, and its neural mechanisms remain insufficiently understood. This study investigates brain network dynamics using an EEG-based functional connectivity framework based on the debiased Weighted Phase Lag Index (DwPLI). Participants performed a modified Torrance Test of Creative Thinking (TTCT-F) designed to elicit four cognitive states: idea generation (IDG), idea evolution (IDE), idea rating (IDR), and rest (RST). From the resulting connectivity networks, interpretable graph-theoretic features—node strength and betweenness centrality—were extracted, and statistically significant, discriminative features were identified through a structured feature selection pipeline. DwPLI-derived features demonstrated strong statistical significance and revealed robust neural markers, primarily within frontal–parietal networks, for differentiating cognitive states. Classification results showed high performance across models, with SVM achieving up to ~93% accuracy under ten-fold validation and ~ 90% under one-subject-out validation, indicating strong generalizability. The findings demonstrate that creative cognition is governed by the interplay between large-scale network integration and hub-based information routing. This work provides an efficient, interpretable, and scalable framework for cognitive-state recognition, with implications for real-time neurocognitive applications.
